One of the Leeds Climateers sent me this post he spotted on the Telegraph blog from "leedschris". leedschris 07/03/2013 12:40 PM ... I attended a 'British Energy Challenge' seminar, organised by DECC and Leeds City Council last week.. It was an 'invited audience', but I suspect it was mainly energy/green activists who turned up. It was like being at a cult meeting, with everyone trying to dream up yet more green (and expensive) ways of getting our energy. No-one mentioned shale, no-one mentioned price. When I pointed out that our electricity prices had already increased 228% in 10 years - from the near bottom to near top of prices in the western world - I was treated like a heretic.
We were asked to 'vote' for options about solving our 'energy crisis' - and the results were so bizarre, with everyone seeming to think it was OK to vote for options that had 'two areas the size of Wales' devoted to biofuels etc etc and the idea that everyone should live in a home with the thermostat set at 16C. Again, I was virtually laughed at for raising the issue of 'but at what cost' or pointing out that Age UK reckoned cold houses and winters were killing 27,000 UK pensioners a year. This seminar is, presumably, going to be used by DECC to show that the public back 'green energy'. The reality is that, like DECC itself, it has been taken over by the 'green cultists', who are slowly killing the country.
