In view of Hamas's chief spokesman's declaration that Hamas will not cease to arm as much as they can for a future war even if Israel negotiates a ceasefire with them, because "Iaraelis cannot be trusted and need to be destroyed", what on earth is Israel supposed to do?

Destroy Hamas from within. Eventually, the citizens of Gaza will get fed up with starvation and corruption, and the middle classes will realise that their children's future lies in friendly trade with their neighbours on both sides. Every community includes a few barmy Nazis: the trick is not to let them rule.
It took 2000 years and a fair bit of bloodshed to establish democracy in most of Britain, and we still pay taxes to support a supposedly theocratic regime of crooks in Northern Ireland, so don't expect any miracles in the self-styled holy land.

Destroy Hamas from within. Eventually, the citizens of Gaza will get fed up with starvation and corruption I fervently hope you're right. Seems a wing and a prayer though, when Hamas quite gleefully shoot anyone who opposes them in the street. I would say the more realistic hope lies with Fatah, invading and subduing Hamas. But when their chief spokesman calls Trump's appeal to stop paying the families of suicidal terrorists "insane", I don't really see much joy there either.
