So doesn't anyone have anything to say about the Original Post? It's been derailed, of course, by the usual suspects.
But what about that incident where an extremist environmentalist took hostages at the Discovery Channel and got himself shot?

Sorry, Mr Smith, it was me. I was just trying out the buttons and I hit the wrong one. Seriously, though, aren't these exalt/smite selections just a way of complaining about a post without saying why? Every time a AGW proponent posts something they either get nothing or an exalt. Every time an AGW sceptic posts something they either get nothing or a smite. Which goes to prove that AGW sceptics are more tolerant to opposing views than AGW proponents are? QED (Sorry helen for the Latin )

Don't you worry oldpythonboy, I'm old enough to have done latin at o level and there is nothing that has been demonstated here. I'm inclined to disagree with your perjorative picture of humanity and of life and lean more towards Lovelocks Gaia picture. That's not much brighter but at least there is still hope?

Perhaps Karma points are awarded or taken away based on the scientific content of the posts? That too could explain rsmith7's 'score'.
This is a science board so all possible explanations should be considered on the evidence.

Hostage-taker and environmentalist martyr James Lee was inspired by the very same views that were expressed in the very first edition of The Ecologist Magazine. wattsupwiththat.com/2010/09/02/stop-the-hysteria/None of you "environmentalists" has dared to touch this story. Why not? Because it does not reflect well on your movement?

When 'Scarymary' would be a far better 'target'... Soul MusicJoe K - I don't think this helps any. Kiteman raised a valid point, you're just poking with a stick and hoping for a reaction. Let's try and stick to science please, otherwise stuff escalates with 'he started it' being seen as justification.

Did Susan manage to sort her problem out? She's a member of the science forums and I could drop her a PM if it would be of any help.
I don't know which forum she was trying to join, perhaps I could join for her then pass on the details so she could take over the membership.
Probably against the rules but I don't mind breaking rules for a good cause.

The beliefs that drive an environmental activist to take hostages and invite suicide by police marksman are VERY relevant to a science board. In fact they belong precisely in the sub-category "human impact on the environment". People like poor James Lee have been beguiled by the faux "science" propagated by people like you and by James Hansen et al. He believed the message put out by a magazine like The Ecologist, that human beings are "parasitic" when they are merely "successful" as a species because of their control of their environment.
But I quite understand why you believers don't wish to touch this story with a bargepole! Not very edifying is it?

Perhaps people are reluctant to comment on a subject (psychological disorders) that are outside of their area of expertise?
However, lack of knowledge doesn't seem to stop some on expounding on issues outside their ken.

I doubt if it's ever enough though. Regards to veryoldpythonboy. Made my day .

Just passing, and thought I'd Google the title, [as You do] and found this happy piece..... "Humans are parasites, and parasitism is an integral part of nature. There is nothing dirty, evil, or intrinsically negative about parasites. Remember, though, that the best parasites keep their hosts alive: a parasite without a host is a predator with no more food. Curiously, humans seem bent on destroying the Earth, our host. Do we simply exploit our host out of need?" www.ecomall.com/activism/humans.htm
