Satellite data show increasing leaf area of vegetation due to direct factors (human land-use management) and indirect factors (such as climate change, CO2 fertilization, nitrogen deposition and recovery from natural disturbances). Among these, climate change and CO2 fertilization effects seem to be the dominant drivers. However, recent satellite data (2000–2017) reveal a greening pattern that is strikingly prominent in China and India and overlaps with croplands world-wide. China alone accounts for 25% of the global net increase in leaf area with only 6.6% of global vegetated area. The greening in China is from forests (42%) and croplands (32%), but in India is mostly from croplands (82%) with minor contribution from forests (4.4%). China is engineering ambitious programmes to conserve and expand forests with the goal of mitigating land degradation, air pollution and climate change. Food production in China and India has increased by over 35% since 2000 mostly owing to an increase in harvested area through multiple cropping facilitated by fertilizer use and surface- and/or groundwater irrigation. Our results indicate that the direct factor is a key driver of the ‘Greening Earth’, accounting for over a third, and probably more, of the observed net increase in green leaf area.
They highlight the need for a realistic representation of human land-use practices in Earth system models.

Perhaps Caroline Lucas et al will hold a debate to celebrate these undeniable facts? But I guess emotional wallowing over purported thermageddon is so much more satisfying for some types.

Perhaps Caroline Lucas et al will hold a debate to celebrate these undeniable facts? But I guess emotional wallowing over purported thermageddon is so much more satisfying for some types. It's their stupendous arrogance I object to. They know they're right, and anyone who disagrees with them is stupid, or selfish, or worse. If you ask them how they're so sure of what they know, they say because "the scientists" tell them so. What about the ones that say the opposite? They're stupid, or selfish...and anyway, 97% of them agree with the settled consensus. But, look, that was a blatant piece of fake news, a propaganda trick by a lying Australian student, long proven to have been deliberately false. No, no, you don't understand the science, which proves that CO2 emissions are causing the global temperatures to rise, sea levels to rise, increasingly wild weather, polar bears becoming extinct, and so on...you're just a denier. Are our CO2 emissions causing the global temperature on Titan to rise, the polar ice on Mars to melt, and the storms on Jupiter to increase? Do you think the recent 90% proven correlation with the strength of the earth's magnetic field and global temperature in the past 300 years, a many more times proven correlation than that between CO2 and temperature, which is a reversed correlation in time, incidentally, might be more worthy of consideration, if we're really interested in science and understanding the problem? No, those dozens of now established observations are mere astronomy, not climate science - and the science is proven, it's simple maths. So simple the IPCC has had to halve the severity of its predictions because it made a basic error in maths over twenty years ago (the correction should have been by over three times, making their extrapolated rise due in about 350 years, not 80, making the planet as warm as it was for the Romans or in the medieval period, which scientists used to call "optimum")? And if the future really is so catastrophic, what are you actually doing about it? Apart from scaring all our children witless, that is, enabling you to leverage their fear into power? You know exactly what you're doing, all right. www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/02/24/sen_dianne_feinstein_argues_with_children_over_green_new_deal.html

And this is for ProA, who's contemplating joining some obscure Catholic order where they have to keep their mouths shut at (nearly) all times.
Come on Nay. I feel like Ernie Wise here, after Eric's departure. You have a responsibility to speak up, before this country goes completely to shit (at the hands of people like Aqua.)

Cultivating such a gross personaTo make others feel bad - and non grata - Surely calls for a special place in Hell With Jacob, Boris, Gove, and Little Nell, Whom Swinburne called a monstrous character (Which gives us the final decameter). Nay is playing footsie with another, mrsonde, so please don't give him bother, mrsonde; let him come back to the fold, in his own time, mrsonde, young or old.

A strict Roman Catholic wishing upon people who politically disagree with him a special place in hell is fairly monstrous, I'd say. Anyone who quotes such a call in approval I'd say is a gross persona, too. This doesn't surprise me, in the least. A road designed by petit bureaucrats, lacking the intelligence or humility to distinguish the good from the banal.
I read and understood your little pomes - have I won?

An absurd overreaction. And a misconceived one - for I have no religion.

An absurd overreaction. And a misconceived one - for I have no religion. You're quoting Tusk, and the fact that you don't share his religious beliefs makes your endorsement even more offensive. By them, I think you mean?

Aqua lacks the nous to challenge the findings so he changes the subject. Nothing changes amongst the would-be fellow travellers of the political elite , does it?
Climate Change Alarmism IS a religious belief, dolt, like any other form of Millenarianism and "End of the World is Nigh" claptrap!

You're both tilting at windmills. It's clear I was responding - in good humour - to personal vilification rather than climate or EU matters.

You're both tilting at windmills. It's clear I was responding - in good humour - to personal vilification rather than climate or EU matters. Windmills, eh? Now, why would you so quixotically respond to your purely imaginary "personal vilification" by saying Boris, Jacob and Gove deserve a special place in hell? Do you feel somehow tormented by them? You've claimed before - with not a scintilla of justification, as usual, rationality being superfluous and requests for explanation presumptious in religious circles - that Boris is "disgusting". Take comfort. If we ever do actually leave the EU, you could always get together with other trusted europhiles and hold your own traditional services of worship in secret. Fly the EU flag, sing Deutschland Uber Alles, genuflect before the maroon passport...
