One of my people has told me (AFTER I bought a new all singing microwave) that microwaving food destroys a lot of the beneficial parts of particularly veg.
I don't use one a lot, but would be interested in some informed opinion before anyone dies from mineral or vitamin deficiency.

Jonjel I think most of these stories are "old wives tales". I had to show my son-in-law a research paper on heating milk to show him that it was better for his child to heat it in the microwave than heat it by putting it in a saucepan of hot water. Must admit P I was a bit sceptical as no doubt some dire warning would have been issued, and every Microwave sold would have to have a large red sticker on t saying 'Warnng, microwaving your food might make you pregnant' or some such.
My chappie is pretty bright and he briefly showed me a clip of two plants being grown, one in purified and one in microwaved water. I asked him where they got their nutrients and he did not know, s I told him about hyponics, but then the phone rang....

Principled. I followed this up and my chap sent me this link. I have not had time to read it all but as soon as I read that a calorie today is not the same as it was 50 or 100 years ago I concluded that this was scaremongering pseudo science of the very worst kind. Jonjel I'll have a look at the article, but note that it appears on a google search page with loads of others when you search "Dangers of microwave cooking". Most hits seem to be "wellness sites"... I'm having trouble getting research findings, but below is a brief extract from one published last week. It relates to the breakdown of antibiotics in chickens during cooking. It seems that no method is perfect, but microwaving is best. I'll read the article and keep searching, but I wish STA were here as she would have access to papers that are blocked for people like us.

As I thought, because according to the article microwave cooking and the effect on humankind seems to be responsible for everything including leukemia liver disease and death!

I sometimes heat up tuna in a microwave so it's warm (not hot) and it changes it's flavour totally, getting rid of the fish taste so it's a little like chicken.
As the fish smell from fish is normally down to bacteria, I wonder if the microwave kills them off by boiling them?
