If so I would be grateful for some advice.
I have a friend who suspects her partner has hacked her phone. He happens to be a mobile phone engineer and has had access to her telephone . So what I want to know is
Would it be possible for him to have put some kind of tracker on her phone without her knowledge?
Would it be possible for him to have put some sort of 'spy in the cab' system on the phone which enabled him to read her text messages?
I know from the recent press rumpus it is possible for someone to access a persons voicemail, so assume that is a given?
Is it remotely possible he could also listen n to her calls?
I am not interested in how this is done, I don't want to do it myself but just want to know if it could have been done.
Cheers. JJ

If so I would be grateful for some advice. I'm that guy - the only person in the world without one. But I know a little about computers, and the technology of the modern surveillance culture: Yes. Very simple. A very short app, freely sold on the internet. Yes - the same app. Yes - even if she's actually changed her code from the default. The same app. Fifteen dollars. Doesn;t show up without deep digging in the registry (not hard, but for a professional.)

Thanks Mr Sonde. It is as I suspected. So now, do I deliberately send a couple of messages to flush him out so she is absolutely certain? Maybe.
I assume he could do any or all of those things remotely, from his pc or mobile?

Is is possible to download apps that monitor the activity (numbers called, incoming call numbers, SMS activity cell location etc) of the Mobile phone but in order to actually monitor and listen to telephone calls is another matter altogether. This would require every telephone call to demand from the network a conference call, and as the implemenation of conference calls demands conscious interchange between the user-initiator and each of the conferencees, then it is difficult for me to see that the mobile phone user would not be aware that such a call had been set up. The network (unless it has recently changed)would reject any attempt to set up a cal to a 3rd party whilst a call is in progress. If the network now has that capability then the customer would be aware because the 3rd party phone would cause ring-tone in the users phone - this is unavoidable because the network actually generates the ring tone
I may be wrong, but I do not think the network or user can cause the user to voice-communicate with a 3rd party user without the initiator being aware of it
It is however, possible for an SMS message to be sent without the user being aware of it

Send her a text pointing out that cyanide is undetectable in marzipan, then offer him a home-made birthday cake.

Send her a text pointing out that cyanide is undetectable in marzipan, then offer him a home-made birthday cake. I like it! Any other ideas akin to Under Milk Wood?
