Depressing news item today - Gatwick airport repeatedly closed by drone activity.
Bad enough that one or two morons can screw up the life of thousands, and that the authorities seem powerless to track the culprit(s).
Shaming, too, that the UK law forbids drone flying within 1 km of an airfield boundary or above 400 ft, with a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment. A kilometer out from Liverpool, I'd expect to be well below 400 ft in a plane, and helicopters will be operating below me.
Hopefully, at least one American-registered aircraft will have been grounded by this nonsense. If the perpetrators are extradited, the US takes a rather more robust view of public safety. The minimum distance is 5 miles from an airfield boundary and the penalty for endangering an aircraft, by any means, is death.
