Why does the Arctic undergo periodic rapid warming? Kevin UK says, “much of the claimed global warming is hardly global at all. In fact it looks to be more accurately Northern Hemisphere warming, and for that matter primarily Northern Hemisphere WINTER warming!” harrywr2 writes on November 27, 2010 The +5 degree step change in temperature that occurred in Alaska between 1974 and 1976 and remained for 30 years without additional warming is inconsistent with a ‘gradual warming’ caused by AGW. climate.gi.alaska.edu/ClimTrends/Change/TempChange.htmlThe information and links above are culled from the thread on Judith Curry’s blog, Climate Etc, where she invites sceptics to state their evidence which contradicts the “orthodoxy”. It is a fascinating and very long thread and I recommend it to anyone interested in understanding climate. It is entitled “Skeptics: Make Your Best case” judithcurry.com/2010/11/26/skeptics-make-your-best-case/#more-1212

I'm sorry, abacus, simply to describe the latest period of warming does nothing to explain WHY it happens.

"The +5 degree step change in temperature that occurred in Alaska between 1974 and 1976 and remained for 30 years without additional warming is inconsistent with a ‘gradual warming’ caused by AGW." climate.gi.alaska.edu/ClimTrends/Change/TempChange.htmlBut it is consistent with the Great Pacific Climate Shift if the mid-1970s when the PDO went into positive phase after a long period in the cool phase which also coincided with the mid-century cooling 1945-1975. Ignore the natural causes of variation at your peril!
