www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/heat-island-sprawl.htmlRead this: "...according to NASA scientists who presented new research recently at an American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting in San Francisco, Calif. Summer land surface temperature of cities in the Northeast were an average of 7 °C to 9 °C (13°F to 16 °F) warmer than surrounding rural areas over a three year period, the new research shows. The complex phenomenon that drives up temperatures is called the urban heat island effect..." wattsupwiththat.com/2010/12/14/image-the-urban-heat-islands-in-the-northeast/#more-29402Phil Jones, who thinks UHI is negligible, should look at this. It finds that urban areas can be much, much hotter than surrounding countryside. Far hotter than Jones will admit. Since nearly all surface temperature stations are in urban areas and/or at airports this is bound to artificially enhance the sampled purported "global" mean temperature. Purported CO2-induced "global warming" is, in fact, mainly a measurement of the UHI.
