I don't believe you have actually seen this thing with your own eyes RSmith so why do you think there are any true facts here? You, in the past, have dismissed everything you have not tested or experienced in your own life time for example the sea around Shetland or Orkney hasn't increased in temperature as far as you are concerned so global warming is rubbish. Why are you championing unsupported observations from a, ahem, you hate them, a journalists report from a newspaper? Let's have some consistency here mister!

The problem seems to be that it is difficult to determine the exact size unless you first specifiy what you mean by size. Hence no surprise if some advocates manage to manipulate the actual data to end up with estimates the size of Texas! As a wiki article states:
As we keep saying, you must always go back to the actual data, not just look at what the press releases say, or what the newspapers say about the press releases.................
Why should you expect to? Who is creating the impression that it's some great raft of debris that you can practically walk across..................
Doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of crap out there, and that it isn't a bad thing to have lying about....................

Who is creating the impression that it's some great raft of debris that you can practically walk across.................. All the usual suspects are "creating that impression" WWF, Greenpeace etc. To deny this is idiotic. To say that you shouldn't see a garbage patch the size of texas from the deck of a boat is equally idiotic. Especially to someone who spends their life looking at floating plastic on the sea. More nonsense from the eco-alarmist sect. Their credibility is now ZERO.
