Cold fusion is the hypothetical near room temperature reaction in which two smaller nuclei join together to form a single larger nucleus while releasing large amounts of energy.
Will cold fusion ever become a reality?

Abacus,
I get concerned when they talk about temperature in the context of a individual molecule, or atom.
So maybe it is all about getting then close enough together in order for them to overcome naturally repulsive forces, and that takes energy .. such as crashing them into each other at high speed . So if they can't do it at the highest levels of kinetic energy ( i.e. at hight temperature) I guess they aren't going to succeed at the lower levels
And if they are reliant on everyday levels of interaction of matter and fields, if it hasn't happened yet, I guess it won't, or can't.
But there again they have recently discovered that cosmic rays do emanate from clouds ... so maybe there is hope!
But you have given me an idea for a Grand Experiment! Pons & Fleischmann, stand back!
I shall take my trusty Wimshurst machine, and Microwave oven into my steamed-up bathroom, and report back.
