Jonjel posted this elsewhere. Why it could not be posted here I do not know. But here it is!
--------
A lot of what has been on my mind over the last few days has been said, but I thought I would try and put the record straight as far as I can.
First I think I should apologise to Marchesa for being so rude to her. I don’t normally let fly but it was largely because she seemed to go for someone who was extremely ill. I would think a lot more of her if she was in any way apologetic for what she said. And to further put the record straight I have never spoken to or met Helen, nor Louise, nor anyone else from a message board.
Now to global warming.
We are told by the government and many interested parties that unless we all drive electric cars and cover the whole of our countryside with wind turbines and every roof with solar panels we are all going to die. I don’t believe them.
And we are told by the deniers that there is absolutely no problem, it is all smoke and mirrors and some dastardly conspiracy by governments and interested parties, carry on as before lads. And I don’t believe them either.
That is not for one moment an admission of could not care less, don’t care. I care very much that this wonderful world is being defaced, on the one hand by factories belching god knows what into our oceans and atmosphere and on the other by miles of windmills and crops grown for bio-fuels, neither of which make any sense to me. Greed in both camps has a lot to do with it. To declare an interest, I actually make part of my living dealing with wind turbine blade manufacturers. Not a lot, but some so know how these people promote the 'we are all going to die' argument.
However it is a subject I would dearly like to discuss, but discussion to me is an exchange of ideas and being open minded. That discussion will never happen if people have closed minds and simply copy and paste from what in many cases are thesis length blogs written by people who are self appointed experts, then castigate anyone who raises any counter argument. Those very people have cherry picked from yet more sources, and much of what they write can never be peer reviewed. The fact that these people have qualifications is meaningless. I am sure there are highly qualified people out there who believe in creationism. There is an overwhelming body of scientific opinion that says the creationists are wrong, and for that matter that the earth is not flat. For open discussion what we don’t need is people constantly quoting others to shore up their own position.
The science board did at one stage have some pretty lively debate. Not any more. People have been driven away and no-one will bother to post on any board if they are abused at every turn, and if every thread is turned into a climate science thread. There are serious questions I would love to have asked there, but am not going to if I am told what a prat I am at every turn.
Now I really do think I am done here. It would be great if we could all ‘move down the bus’ and discuss other things.
