£azarus, Would you prefer wind at 50p/unit...or tidal at £1/unit?
Or wouldn't nuclear, at 5p/unit, be best?

"Will the adoption of alternative energy generation also generate jobs and improve the economy on the whole?" Lazarus There has been only one comprehensive study of "green" job creation and this was by the University of Juan Carlos (see link). It does not make good reading. Every green job created has cost the Spanish Gov. around 1/2 million pounds! The report suggests that the USA will lose 2.2 jobs for every green job that replaces them. I just wonder if the Luddites are those who believe the green hype? www.juandemariana.org/pdf/090327-employment-public-aid-renewable.pdfAs it's a PDF, you may have to download it separately. P

See what You mean P, the bottom line is the 'bottom line'... '24. Renewables consume enormous taxpayer resources. In Spain, the average annuity payable to renewables is equivalent to 4.35% of all VAT collected, 3.45% of the household income tax, or 5.6% of the corporate income tax for 2007.'

Or wouldn't nuclear, at 5p/unit, be best? If you can get nuclear at 5p I'll take it.

If the UK was 100% nuclear, the electicity price would be less than 5p/unit. Will you and your employers be supporting the newbuild nuclear plants?

I would doubt 5p. 10+ maybe.
The nuclear industry has never been very profitable. I don't think anybody has even suggested privatising BNFL.

The nuclear generators are building plant without a penny of subsidy. They don't need it. Total cost of generation including decommisioning is just over 2p/unit (Royal Academy of Engineers Report) Maintaining the grid would cost a bit but... I think they'd do alright at 5p

Are you sure about that?. Isn't the new Finnish plant only going ahead because of price guarantees for its output?. Isn't it well over budget and late?. Siemens have pulled out.

It's well over budget and late because of continued litigation by the ever helpful green lobby I expect. I'll check.

Total cost of generation including decommisioning is just over 2p/unit (Royal Academy of Engineers Report) Isn't that the same report that has wind and tidal at about 7p, and not the 50p or £1 you have claimed?

7p (if right?..sounds low) is about double that of gas.

That's the one £azarus. I don't know how they worked out the 7p per unit figure when wind receives 1 ROC per unit generated at least. www.enviros.com/PDF/BN020RenewablesObligation.pdfOnshore wind 45p/unit Offshore wind 67.5p/unit Tidal and other useless technology £90p/unit. And you support this lunacy, £azarus? ??
