The Spectator reports a piece of the Conference speech of Osborne about carbon reduction
It will be recalled that the Labour government in their self-righteousness (with the full support of other wannabe-saints in th Commons) introduced carbon reduction legislation on a manic - not to say a maniac scale.
The ridiculous creature Milliband committed the UK to its biggest government expenditure EVER - ?18billion per annum for the next 40 years on carbon reduction measures.
This ruinous policy is now starting to bite with rising energy prices directly attributable to this policy and Tata, the Indian asset-strippers announcing that they will close down a N England steel plant because the energy costs are uncompetitive with other countries.
All this is part o the ghastly Climate Change Act which commits Britain to cutting its carbon emissions by 34% by 2020. Compare this with Europe generally - another 'look at how holy I am' union of carbon -reducers where they are 'only' committed to a reduction of 20% in the same period, and compare all this with the major serious competition - China and India whose carbon emissions will increase during the same period and it is plain that we are gripped by a quite irresponsible self-righteous madness.
Even worse we are committed to carbon emission reduction of 80% by 2050 - a quite impossible feat as the technology apparently simply does not exist - well impossible if we remain a 1st world country - it could be achieved if we revert to some medieval self-sufficiency.
And the silliness of it all!
The UK proudly announce that it has cut its carbon emissions by 3% over the last twenty years and indeed it has! But only because we have got rid of our manufacturing capacity!
If we take into account th carbon emissions that India, China, Japan , Taiwan and Korea produce in making our Plasma TVs and cars etc, then it is calculated that we have caused an increase of emissions over that period of approaching 30%
The good news is that in Osborne's speech he indicated that we would not follow our commitment to be ahead of Europe but would simply not lag behind. he recognizes the finacial/industrial disaster that our Climate Change Act signifies and at last a glimmer of reality shines through
Yet still the bloody windmills go up at the taxpayers expense, windmills that are so unreliable that they demand 100% back up from conventional power stations, and as those conventional power stations cannot be switched on and off they must be kept running, causing more carbon emissions - in fact some people estimate that when the carbon emissions of making the windmills is added to the conventional back-up carbon emissions then the windmills actually increase carbon emissions
A chink pf sanity but dare our PC ciphers in the Commons admit their foolishness and repeal that lunatic Act?
