Welcome indeed!
Here is a posting you addressed to me (as Liberaljoe) on the BBC Boards:
[deleted]
I do hope that we will not have a repeat of such defamatory postings here.
Edit by joanne: So do I!
Now drop these old vendettas everyone please.

So this is the "silence board"? Well, well, well! The perils of spellcheck. You're right, but the 'mis-spel' does point out something I noticed the other day, this is we are 'crawler-less'. If any part, or the whole, of the address [in the address bar above] is 'Googled' it will not show. All that shows are 'mentions' of it at other sites. There's Yours, Beeb and Science Forum. If the Science Forum is tapped on, ignore any message that says You're 'not entitled', press the 'Home' thinghy, and then wind down to the bottom of the page, You will see... Members: 0 lllll Global Moderator Guests: 2 Search Engines: 2 Google (1), Yahoo! (1) Just here, these search engines, generic alias 'crawlers', are the secret. These fellas [as I understand it] trundle around the web reading all sorts of things, and then report back to 'mother'. I presume that at the door of this site there is a sign saying 'no hawkers, circulars or crawlers'. Not a bad idea really, keeps it 'select'. ytisstuie ps. my extremely valued colleague 'StuartG' has already informed You who the 'Global Moderator' is .... 'He Who Must Not Be Named' tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SpeakOfTheDevil"Say Hastur 3 times."

I'm afraid much of that was lost on me, guest! All of it actually. I'm a simple soul. Don't get around much in cyberspace. Maybe that's a good thing actually!

I don't go in for abusive or defamatory postings and much prefer civilised discussion.
I hope some of the former posters from the radio 4 science board will have learned not to misinterpret corrections as personal attacks that they think warrant abusive and insulting replies.
Hopefully the moderation here will be much more professional than on the BBC.

"t; Ah, a comedian No I am perfectly serious. I don't go in for abusive or defamatory postings and much prefer civilised discussion. That is not to say that I may not reply in a fairly forthright manner in reply to deliberately provocative posts or clear lies. Of course on a public messageboard I show considerable restraint and would not be as forthright as I may be in real life. As I said I hope that the moderation here is more professional than at the BBC boards and also that some posters will be able to exhibit a greater degree of self-discipline in avoiding deliberate lies or provocation than was evident on other boards. So lets try and keep things civilised here.

yellowcat From memory I seem to remember all your posts were either put-downs or insults or ad homs or just bile and I said so at one point. I don't remember much science, technology, maths or any views. But you can recover and become a better poster. Do I get another karma smite for this???

"I show considerable restraint and would not be as forthright as I may be in real life." That I'd love to witness. It may be that some people are more sensitive to criticism than they appear, or that for some reason they regard me as aggressive. I know that I some times upset secretaries at work without knowing what I had said to upset them. I remember a couple of slightly heated discussions with Jehovahs witnesses, one had called on me on a Saturday morning after I had been working late, I may have been a bit harsh in my criticism of her because after leaving I noticed that rather than calling on anyone else she sat on the wall opposite my house crying for around an hour. I suspect that this was some sort of ploy to gain sympathy. Another JW had a pitch near my work he did engage me in conversation once but appeared reluctant to talk on other occasions, even though I spoke to him. He even took to dodging round a corner to hide if he saw me coming - very odd behaviour.
