abcnews.go.com/GMA/Eco/ocean-acidification-hits-northwest-oyster-farms/story?id=10425738&page=1"While the effects are just beginning to be seen in our hatcheries, the oceans are now changing faster than they have ever changed over the last 200 million years," said Richard Freely of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who has been studying ocean acidification for 20 years. maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=Tillamook,+Ore.&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=Tillamook,+OR,+USA&gl=uk&ei=NM2JTPjKEsS64gbFvZyVCg&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CB0Q8gEwAA The hatchery mentioned in the first link is situated in an intensive agricultural area with many watercourses emptying into an almost LAND-LOCKED LAGOON!! Yet it's "ocean acidification" that's causing the problem??? This is obviously conclusion led "research".

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLmhMPpN0X8does this video refer to same place, it has a DOI: 09 Feb 2009. From ABC is says "It first started in 2007. We had a situation here when all of a sudden, our larvae started dying," said Wiegardt. " Why did they make the video??! Stuart

Love the video, Stuart. Sounds like they were bailed out by the state and now they owe them. Speaking as a someone with 20 years experience in the live shellfish storage business, their problems stem from one source - bad siting of their hatchery. They're never going to get decent water in that lagoon. The filtration system is a solution to a problem that should never have arisen. As for using this site as an example of "ocean acidification" ? Preposterous.

What have the bacteria that killed the larvae to do with ocean pH ? It was solved with installation of filtration equipment apparently and now they are back in business.
Huh ? Another easily solvable problem falsely laid at the door of CO2? Why? Oh yes, it taps into the grant money that is being thrown at any "research" with a CO2 tag attached. It also gives "science" mags something to be "alarmist" about whilst selling copies to all the other wannabe AGW research gravytrain riders and their scare-mongering environmentalist pals.
Thanks for bringing this trash to our attention, Mr Smith and Stuart.

The bacteria problem happened in the past. Their new problem is obviously a direct result of co2 emissions. What else could it be?
Twaddle.

Mr Smith, The ABC report seems to suggest Carbon Dioxide as the 'culprit' The video 'An Oregon Success Story' says it's bacteria. StuartG mod: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLmhMPpN0X8 if You can look at the video, She [Sue Cudd] says that they fitted a filtration system and it got rid of the bacteria. No CO2 mentioned.

"It first started in 2007. We had a situation here when all of a sudden, our larvae started dying," said Wiegardt. "
""The chemistry is very simple. It is 101. Carbon dioxide makes the water more acidic, that is irrefutable," said Burke Hales, Oregon State University professor of oceanography. "
These statements are from the ABC report. Somebody, at best, is mixed up, at worst there are some 'flying porkies' [type of fish!]
Notice to readers, posters. Do have a look, but remember to read at least twice and then compare to the YouTube video.
