"Legal stuff: Greenpeace Ltd, Canonbury Villas London N1 2PN Registered in London no 1314381, VAT registration no 625951426 "
I always thought that the above was a Charity, but it doesn't appear to be. Has anyone had any dealings with these folk? StuartG

In the 1980's they were my legatees (formal will witnessed by my then solicitor) since I have no children. People who claim I am not really a person who has genuinely changed her mind about AGW and its protagonists couldn't be more wrong. I was still paying a monthly Standing order to Greenpeace until a couple of years ago through inertia.
Needless to say I have revoked the will in favour of Greenpeace since then.

thesequal.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=climate&action=display&thread=261WWF is even worse, Stuart. They aspire to be a bank based on carbon credit trading and turning Amazon rainforest into "moneytrees". thesequal.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=climate&thread=142&page=1 WWF hopes to find $60 billion growing on treesThe carbon credits scheme would make WWF and its partners much richer, but with no lowering of overall CO2 emissions, writes Christopher Booker 20 March 2010 . ... Amazonia has long been near the top of the list of the world’s environmental cconcerns, not just because it includes easily the largest and most bio-diverse area of rainforest on the planet, but because its billions of trees contain the world’s largest land-based store of CO2 – so any serious threat to the forest can be portrayed as a major contributor to global warming. If it then emerged, however, that a hidden agenda of the scheme to preserve this chunk of the forest was to allow the WWF and its partners to share the selling of carbon credits worth $60 billion, to enable firms in the industrial world to carry on emitting CO2 just as before, more than a few eyebrows might be raised. The idea is that credits representing the CO2 locked into this particular area of jungle – so remote that it is not under any threat – should be sold on the international market, allowing thousands of companies in the developed world to buy their way out of having to restrict their carbon emissions. The net effect would simply be to make the WWF and its partners much richer while making no contribution to lowering overall CO2 emissions.... www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/7488629/WWF-hopes-to-find-60-billion-growing-on-trees.htmlYes, money does grow on trees, apparently! Robert Napier, also formerly of the WWF, is now Chairman of the Board of the UK Meteorological Office. What’s up with that? On the subject of WWF, I watched a trailer on Sky [freebee] News [Oxford area transmissions] it involved a cyclist [they are promoting cycling] and up in the top left of the picture was the WWF logo. I think it's to do with trees, and I hate to say this, on here, in the Rain Forest I'm outa here!

A quick check on Wikipedia confirmed that Greenpeace is not a British-based organisation. Its head office is in Amsterdam and its UK operation is a branch of the international organisation.
I do not know the precise legal position but perhaps it does not qualify to be a charity.
