Like what? I wish I could share your faith in government. Unfortunately, the years I've been involved in politics have left me a little cynical....to say the least.

Thing is, what other system is there. It's better than communism.

It's communism I'm talking about.

Last night I wasted an evening attending a meeting hosted by the Crown Estate, regarding marine renewables. It was standard fare paying lip service to the concerns of fishermen who's grounds have been sold to "developers". I won't waste your time with their platitudes but I must share the contributions from the "developers" They were all under 30 and none of them had any technical or engineering background. PR people to a man. They talked in glowing terms of the "success of the trials" of the "Pelamis" and "Oyster" wave devices and the various tide turbines doing the rounds. When we pointed out that their wave devices were lying in ruins around the coast, they looked embarrassed yet said the "trials of the prototypes had given useful data". There was some discussion of how fishermen and developers could live together in harmony and various ideas were exchanged. I suggested that the fishermen should withdraw all objection and get out of the way on the strict proviso that if they didn't have fully operational, un-subsidised, commercial arrays in place and working within five years they should pack up and go away. Surprisingly the developers didn't go for this very generous offer of co-operation.

I suppose they have to be sure that their investments are going to be worthwhile. Wave power is a tricky thing to set up.
