Venus is closer to the sun than Earth at 108,000km compared to our 150,000km.
Images like this get things in proportion I think, demonstrating the relationship of our planet to its star.

Very spectacular images! Any astronomers out there who know whether the transit was speeded up in the video or real time.

This is how long it took when viewed from Earth. "The nearly 7-hour transit begins at 3:09 pm Pacific Daylight Time (22:09 UT) on June 5th." shown here ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkI1O5-z8i4&feature=player_detailpage#t=32sVenus is just a bit smaller than Earth, not much in terms of the Universe. It gives us an idea of our own insignificance in the way of things. [Venus' diameter is 12, 104 km. while Earth's is 12, 756]
