Has there ben a warming recently? Maybe. A little - if it's possible to distinguish it from Urban heat island effect. But why worry? It's tiny, anyway.
Cause? Aye, there's the rub! Cyclical ocean oscillations is where the smart money now is, Eamonn, amongst those who have never stopped trying to understand the nature and extent of natural climate variability.
Since around 1977, the Great Pacific Climate Shift, (heard of that, Eamonn?) we've been the warming part of a sixty-year cycle - that accounts for the Arctic summer ice melt that started about that time, perhaps?
Maybe now we're in the cooling part. The warming has certainly stopped, if you can't bear to let the word "cooling" pass your lips!
Time will tell. Looks like the fervour for AGW is also past its peak and is also in its "cooling" phase.
Time perhaps for YOU to re-examine ancient "certainties", Eamonn?

Highly recommended reading as a follow-up to Dr Roy's article are the comments from Richard Courtney and Ferdinand Engelbeen and others.
Don't anyone suggest I don't try to stretch my own and everyone else's understanding of climate processes!
