Lots of populist cheering for the parliamentary naming of Philip Green, but I'm not so sure that was a Good Thing.
At the very least, the scumbag can claim immunity from prosecution, or at least a mistrial, as any case against him has now been prejudiced. So he could get off scot-free despite having committed a bunch of crimes.
But worse, any campaign to boycott his shops will impact his employees, not him. As a sensible capitalist, his accrued wealth is not invested in his own companies but widely distributed. If Topshop goes down the toilet after BHS, be sure that the pension fund will be empty and around 10,000 employees will be thrown on the scrapheap, in order to "punish" one bloke who doesn't give a damn because it isn't all that profitable or secure compared with his other investments.
Had Lord Loudmouth kept stumm, the old bastard could be locked up for any number of offences and his employees (mostly women)could rejoice and keep their jobs. The courts could of course set aside any injunction because a nondisclosure contract cannot be used to hide a crime, but that decision would have to go through the "proper channels" of prosecution with evidence, not the popular press.
