From the video... "We need to design new materials..." "Realistically it will be 30-40 years away". It was ever thus. Nuclear fusion reminds me of the elusive search for a solution to the heavy, low-energy density batteries for electric cars, we've never quite found that elusive something that will take use forward in leaps and bounds,rather than the slow plod currently.
It's like that old joke about the guy who takes his shoes to the cobblers for repair. He goes in week after week and the answer is always "They'll be ready next week". He eventually emigrates and 25 years later returns for a visit. He decides to pop into the cobblers to check on what happened to his shoes. On inquiring he is told by the cobbler "They'll be ready next week" For shoes, read nuclear fusion. P
