I gather protesters in Bahrain are calling for the replacement of the Royal family. Could the events in Egypt have sparked a democracy movement throughout the rest of the Arab world? Who might be next - Saudi Arabia?

Negotiation via riot. It's an old means of exercising influence over government.

Bahrain is key to the US ME policy. It has a large Naval base there and it will surely not allow Bahrain to fall under Islamic rule (there is a lot of sympathy for Iran there). Just as in Algiers it will ensure that inconvenient democracy does not succeed.

Sometimes violent revolution is necessary. When? When dictatorial and oppressive regimes are unbending surely?

I agree but I think abacus and the left footers considers our government oppressive and unbending. The Guardian certainly think so.

I think that the only people that take the Guardian's political views seriously (it is an excellent newspaper otherwise) are Stalinist yearning for the golden past Surprisngly (to me) libya is alsoin upoar with 74 demonstrators killed See how we such up to these arab regimes that are hated by their own people
