I have to report, rather ashamedly, that I visited another science MB over the weekend (which shall be nameless but a well known one) and started a few topics (sorry). One of these topics concerned the validity of UFOs, that is, whether they could all be explained away or not. Now, I do not mind at all if people think the whole UFO thing is barmy but, as I half expected, a few posts in and I got a rather snotty enquiry from one of the mods. as to where I thought the post was going, as it could lead to a controversial debate! Now, I accept that there must be sensible rules to prevent abuse, especially where kids might be concerned, but to interfere with a perfectly good discussion because it might 'lead to controversy' is to my way of thinking pathetic and against reasonable free speech. I have found this with other MBs where there are so many rules and over-moderation that you have to think twice about what you are posting, even if is reasonable comment. I made it clear that I would not be posting anymore to that particular MB and also mentioned being there I had the feeling of being in a 'virtual' police state! I know this MB is not perfect but at least you are not continually monitored on whether you are transgressing some petty rule or not. Anyway, I immediately returned to this MB for a bit of 'freedom.'

Great, isn't it! People being treated like adults.
C'mon, abacus, tell us which other science board you're referring to.

Ok, it was 'Bad Astronomy and Universe Today' forum: www.bautforum.com/index.phpThe pity is, it looked like it was a vibrant and well attended community but unfortunately your every word had to be carefully thought about as if you were a child that needed to be regularly chastised and corrected. Pathetic.

Great, isn't it! People being treated like adults. Only some people, of course. Not those that are banned when they've barely opened their mouths. I wonder if there'll be any rethinking of that particular policy?

No-one has a right to join this board, simplex. It's private enterprise not open access for anyone who wants to continue quarrels from elsewhere.
It's for people interested in Science ONLY. The Friendly Chat room was opened at abacus's request. But it's still a Science Board and not a free for all zoo. I take a dim view of people, and there have been several, who join because they have some other personal axe to grind.
Talk Science if you want the welcome mat put out for you. We're not going to be colonised by trolls, that's for sure.
