Well, there's even a pay as you go service now. www.traceamobile.co.uk/how.phpMost apps I've seen seem to require phones with GPS technology. As my mobile cost £10 and just about manages to make simple calls, I've never worried about losing it. I'm sure if it were stolen, the thief would take one look at it, return it and give me a few quid to buy a new one! ;D P

Thanks Principled. It is the technology I am interested in rather than the service. I tried Wiki and that contains such garbage on the subject that I was flabbergasted and fully justifies my cautious policy of never using that as a reference source for anything! GPS is fine and is built into some phones but is useless if the phone is inside most buildings. Now your phone sounds very sensible to me! It has all the useable functions that any other GSM phone has; what is missig are the unnecessary frills that other expensive phones have - perhaps the only 'frill' that might be considered 'necessary' is the ability to access the internet, but as only 3G is really useful in that respect, I think your choice of a £10 GSM phone is an excellent choice
I do not have a mobile phone at all!
Of course, as you are away, mobile phone location services have far more sinister overtones than simply finding lost phones! In the US they have made locations services mandatory so that the authorities can track any citizen that has one. The reason for that was the 9/11 murders, so that they can track terrorists, but governments are not to be trusted, are they?
In fact the US had to delay the implementaion date because the proposed technologies did not work
Hence my query as to the current status
