Except I don't think you really get the point of freedom! We can castigate the way certain cultures or religions treat women as much as we like, we can legislate against forced marriage etc and make various things illegal - but at the end of the day, IF some women choose to say -- I must obey my husband/father, I must let my parents choose my husband, I must let my husband decide how I should vote...........Because I think that is what is right................
Then there is bugger-all we can do about it, because it is her freedom to choose, even if we disagree profoundly with what she does choose! that's the problem with freedom -- sometime people choose other than what you think is best for them.
Just as some liberal muslim parents are probably shocked by their daughters taking up the veil..............
Freedom isn't freedom if you have to say -- you're only free to choose as long as you choose the right thing.
Again, that is NOT what I'm saying at all, and never was. Just that it is a easy knee-jerk argument by those incapable of further thought.
